Engine Removal

We've decided to put an overdrive 5-speed transmission in the car when we put it back together, so that helped us decide to pull both the engine and transmission at the same time. We disconnected the driveshaft at the tranny (I'll pull the shaft out later), dropped the exhaust, pulled the radiator, and took the ancillary parts off the front of the engine. Since both the engine and tranny are coming out together, it helps to take the alternator off too, you need all the clearance you can get. A load-leveler makes the job MUCH easier, altho, I didn't attach the leveler close enough to the engine and I ran out of room on my hoist, so I had to set it down and reattach it closer. Doh!

Car needs to be fairly high to allow clearance underneath for the steep angle of motor and tranny.

Load-leveler in action!

That's a Jaguar E-type hood under there.
It's always important to stay really organized when you're working on a car project, especially when you're taking the entire car apart. This is my special indexing method for parts, heavy stuff on the bottom, light stuff on top, nuts and bolts tagged in bags, everything in its place! Yeah, whatever. Hopefully everything finds a place back on the car when we're done.
